Description
An iconic item of Irish crofting life in use from C16th to dry bread or cakes on the hearth of a peat fire. The rustic wrought iron joinery and rivetting is deftly executed and the pattern's shapes as individual as handwriting - it could come straight from a William Scott painting.
Still evolving from its first practical purpose it is now an evocative sculpture which can double as a superb cookery book stand.
Ireland, late 1700s.
