Description

The forged iron scraper blade (1880s) was set into its much earlier stone base some years ago. The stone is carved with fluted sides in a hard Gloucestershire stone, harder than traditional Cotswold stone, and dates from C17th. The stone has two drilled holes, suggesting it was originally the base for a different, two-pronged, scraper. The stone's patina is lovely and the whole is a decorative, practical and rather intriguing object.
