A purbeck stone food preparation mortar
polished by millennia of wear. Fossil rich.
Stone Age, Dorset, England.

£385

Description

Sculptural and fascinating in its own right - with decorative, practical indoor use or as a bird bath or feeder for outside. From the jurassic coast of Dorset the small bowl is polished smooth from millennia of preparing food with a pestle in the hollow, revealing its densely embedded shell fossils. Between C4th and C12th BC.
The ultimate chic food-processor of its day - the Flintstones would have loved it in the kitchen.
