Description

A unique bird bath by O+I combining a Cotswold stone finial globe (with flatted top) and a rustic York stone square bird bath. Both carved by hand, either side of 1800 ; combined, they make a lovely whole, coming from two vastly different worlds of a Gloucestershire manor house and a hill farm in the Yorkshire Dales : yes sir - aye lad !
The ball shows the file and chisel marks parallel around its circumference. Simultaneously, two hundred miles north, the bath was being hewn rough by a broad chisel blade into its flaked facets : different carvers, different places, same time. Their golden tones now blend and both have accumulated a lovely lichen blessed patina.
