Description

An intriguing and rare piece, full of character - a hand carved bird bath basin with a dew pond triangular base in Cotswold stone with an incredible fossil count of sea shells. The yellow, green and grey lichen patina is similarly extraordinary. Only by inspecting the underside can the original honey colour of the stone be seen together with, amongst the fossils, the mason's chisel marks from mid Victorian times.
The three pieces sit perfectly stable under gravity. Highly unusual and attractive to birds of all sizes.
English, c 1860
