Description
A bottle riddling rack from a Champagne producer's cave. Solid in oak, storing sixty bottles (five cases). 'Riddling' is the repeated turning by hand of inverted bottles to encourage early sediments to collect at the neck for removal, the process repeated twice more before the final corking of the bottle. Nowadays, the process is automated and the racks no longer made.
Versatile, indoors or out, as a decorative or practical piece which tells story after story (mostly in French) of people, harvests and vintages since between the wars.
