Description
The first (1/42) of a limited edition of cheeseboards to be made by O+I in selected woods with cast iron handles which come from the kitchen garden of the Royal Family's Sandringham Estate. These faux bois cast iron half-hoops were produced circa 1870. The batch of 42 we have acquired all share the provenance of most likely having been seen by Queen Victoria herself and certainly come from the garden producing her food. The beautifully grained sycamore (a wood treasured for its natural antiseptic benefits) board has been air dried from a tree felled on the sustainable and organic Sherborne Castle estate in Dorset which Sir Walter Raleigh leased from Queen Elizabeth I and then built the castle in 1594 . An example of two histories coming together in a "new" unique object.
