Description
A true pair of 'mushroom' staddle stones from Cornwall. With stems carved as flared, naturalistic shapes, this pair shows much more individualistic, freehand expression than do most staddle stones, suggesting a provenance in the early1800s or before. The granite contains the full variety of Cornish hues : silver, gold, black, russet, bronze, cream and white together with time-accumulated patina of amber, green and grey lichens. Remarkably, they have survived in superb condition and are a perfect size to use easily around the garden.
