A hand carved West Country mortar with its four handles now almost worn smooth from centuries of handling. It forms an upright bowl and is ideal as a water bowl for dogs or birds, a planter or a decorative bowl in its own right - outdoors or in .
Hard to date with precision, but certainly crafted by hand by the 1400s, quite possibly much earlier.
