Description
Magnificent, robust and superbly crafted by blacksmith's hand, anvil and hammer around 1900 beside the River Dee valley. Extremely sound and solid throughout and retaining traces of red oxide protective finish. At exceptional length for its time for its time (12 ft plus 2" hinge) this gate is perfectly suited for today's vehicle widths - making it that rare beast - old but perfectly modern.
The handwork is superb - all curves, scrolls, embellishments are almost "handwritten", each piece rivetted by hand, To commission such a gate today would cost three times as much and still be inferior in quality of metal.
Presented ready to paint or be left with its delightful lichen patina accumulating. A light wipe of mineral oil would enhance and protect its originality and appearance still more with an added gleam.
