TERRACOTTA PLANTERS
A substantial hand made pair

Description
A pair of superb large terracotta planters.
Hand made, of excellent quality and very substantially built. The horizontal ridges of the potter's coaxing fingers are clear inside the pots, the outer glazed surfaces have weathered beautifully with immense charm and character. They make an especially stunning focal point paired either side of a walkway, path or gate.
Thrown in the same period as the Compton Pottery's early heyday pieces (and similar in shape to Compton's 'Leix' vases) to our eyes this pair shows more elegantly balanced lines and curves, exceptionally expressing the Art and Crafts ethos - "beautiful things beautifully made for beautiful places".
Coming from an old Wiltshire garden, their lichen patina is superb. One pot has bleached slightly paler, having lived for many years in fuller sunshine than its more shaded companion.
The planters can accept an internal pot of up to 36cm diameter or be simply filled with soil and planted with flowers or a shrub. One inch diameter drain hole in each base.
English c 1905.
