Description
Hand forged as a wheel to measure around the oak barrel's circumference as a cooper forms his barrel for wine, butter, marc or brandy. The serrated edge gave purchase as it travelled around the wood. The hole marked each revolution of 40cm.
It works beautifully as a pizza cutter, leaving a perforated edge to each slice.
Exquisite, simple rustic forging by le forgeron. Dating to early 1800s, possibly older still, from the Pyreneees mountains and rivers of Ariege in deepest Occitanie beside Andorra. A place for real mountain people !
