Description
The milling discs of a "quern" - one of the earliest, primitive methods of grinding cereals and nuts. Carved from a coarse grained granite gritstone with concentric circles to trap, grind and mill the grains between the two discs, with one turned using a stick handle inserted in the small recess.
Lovely accent pieces around the garden or even indoors. Hard to date with precision - this pair shows little wear - 1700s or earlier.
