Exceptionally large, hand carved in fossil rich limestone
c 1800, Hampshire

H 84cm (33") Top Diameter 66cm (26")

Beautifully carved in a heavily fossilled lime stone. The base pillar features a deeply scored pattern to each side, the top is exceptionally large - perfect as a drinks table - and striped with chiselled grooves. Grey, green and golden lichen patina. Hand carved in north Hampshire around 1800, the lime stone is unusually hard so it has kept its crisp lines extremely well down its years.
