Description
A west country sycamore dairy bowl from early 1800s with honeyed maturity to the wood. Sycamore's natural antiseptic quality was prized for bowls to skim the cream. Often they would develop a shrinkage crack as does this - repaired "honestly" with metal staples in the late 1800s. Thus healed this beautiful dish then found new life as the offertory bowl in its coastal village church in Devon !
