Description
A rare, especially large turnpin carved in lignum vitae - a wood of beautifully waved and extremely tight grain (denser than water), prized for extreme durability, smoothness and richness in natural oils. Turnpins were used in C19th for shaping lead - flaring pipes, curving sheets and sculpting. This exceptionally sized example makes a graceful, effective doorstop or simply a decorative piece of quiet presence.
